New, improved welding methods have brought the quality of welded pipes up to a level equalling that of seamless pipe for the vast majority of applications.
In many cases, welded pipes are superior, since the narrow tolerance of the base material assures a uniformity of wall thickness which is difficult to attain on seamless pipe without extensive finishing operations.
In Europe, welded stainless steel tubes and pipes are used in more than 80% of all tubular applications. In other markets, where seamless pipes have traditionally had a larger share, welded pipes are increasingly being chosen to replace seamless pipe.
